Greg Smith
Band Co-Founder
Greg Smith was raised in Ewing, New Jersey… just a stone’s throw away from where George Washington crossed the Delaware River and turned the tide of the Revolutionary War.
He started to play the trumpet in the fifth grade and continued through high school. Upon graduation, he played in several bands in the Philadelphia area, most notably: a Glenn Miller-style big band, An Earth, Wind, & Fire cover band, and a Salsa band.
By his mid-twenties, Greg had put down the trumpet for about forty years while he completed a six year enlistment in the US Navy, then on to a twenty-four year career as a Police Officer in his home town. In 2015, he and his wife Caroline moved to Tucson. Shortly thereafter, he went back to playing the trumpet.
Greg has performed in Tucson with Desert Soul Street Band, Desert Chameleon Community Band, Marana Big Phat Band, and Sonora Winds. He co-founded Tucson Little Big Band with Brian Folkes, largely due to the boredom and lack of playing opportunities brought on by Covid.
